How to Wear a Midi Dress with Sneakers – the ultimate comfortable casual look

I am definitely a midi dress with sneakers kind of girl.

If you ask google what shoes you should wear with a midi dress, she will tell you that sandals are your best bet. They will elongate your legs – and if you have sandals with a heel, even better! But for women on the go, who will actually be walking, running errands, going around town- heels are not always the practical choice. For me, the midi dress is the ultimate weekend wear. Put together, comfortable, and flash-proof. You can chase your kids, bend down and sit all without the worry of showing your underpants. Being petite, you might think that elongating the legs is my top priority. But it’s really not. Comfort over EVERYTHING.

For comfort, sneakers are a no brainer. I typically reach for my white leather vans with dresses because they are simple and classic. But I recently picked up these platform converse which I absolutely love. The platform is a modern twist to the classic high top chuck taylor and the embroidery gives them a feminine touch. And while the focus is not necessarily on elongating the leg, there are a few things you can consider when choosing the right dress and sneaker pairing.

Length: you will want your midi dress to fall right around your mid shin, a bit closer to your knee than your ankle. Showing some skin between the hem of your dress and your shoe will help avoid feeling cut off and stumpy. It also helps if your dress or skirt has side slits or a slit in the front to allow for better movement.

Proportions: if your shoes are a little chunky or clunky like mine, go for a small crossbody bag or shoulder bag to even out the proportions and tie the outfit together. I personally love wearing crossbody bags to keep my hands free. This one from Telfar is tiny and cute, but holds the essentials. Keeping your bag on the smaller side allows you to maintain a more sleek look.
