Pop of Red

Working in a corporate environment, you accumulate your fair share of black and white clothing. I try to mix it up with different prints and patterns but probably my favorite way to spice up a black and white outfit is with a pop of color. Literally any color will do!

I tend to gravitate towards adding red – so classic!

For me, its easiest to add the pop of red in my bag or shoes. This particular bag was a gift to myself after I led my first big high volume project at work. The thought of being able to buy this bag got me through those long hours and crazy deadlines. It will forever remind me of how amazing it felt to get on the other side of that project, and how I was able to strategize, plan, and execute it on my own.

I went back and forth on the color for a while before deciding. When investing in a designer item, I would definitely recommend going with a classic and wearable style and color. This will really allow you to get more use out of the item, and in turn, justify the price based on the amount you will use it! Unless you have the funds to buy every new designer style, you really want to save the more “trendy” buys for more affordable pieces.

Yet here I am, with the bright red bag. But here’s the thing – red really is very versatile! Not to mention the top handle + crossbody combo is really my thing. For someone who really does own a lot of black, white and grey – red is the quintessential pop of color! (Which is exactly what I told my husband at the time of this purchase!)

Why incorporate a pop of color instead of just going with a classic black bag? Well, sometimes you just want to make a statement, show your personality, or more importantly have fun with your clothes and accessories! Consider this particular dress a sort of blank canvas (even though it is a print) that you can customize a different way each time you wear it. This allows you to get a variety of different looks with one dress, instead of always wearing it with black pumps and a black bag. You can do the same with jewelry or belts, even hats!

The best thing about these black and white looks is that adding a pop of color is so easy! And you can add any color to switch it up – yellow, blue, pink, etc. If you’re partial to a more neutral wardrobe, having a few colorful accessories allow you to add in something different when you feel like a change. See? Purchase justified.

What is your go to pop of color? Does it change with the seasons?

Until next time,

Jannette
